Anyone recoginize this fish which came from the lfs "Misc. African" tank. (Also had the label "Pearl Peacock" on the tank). Could it be a Victorian hap, or maybe pundamilia Nyererei??? Although it's a subadult, it is starting to show color, particularly red on the gills, upper back and dorsal fin.

I tried different methods, with flash, without, different exposures, etc. This fish's colors are so faint I'm afraid this is the best I'm able to get. What I can tell you is that the red you see on its gills is slightly brighter and the faint red you see along the upper half of its side is brighter and that same faint red is visible along the entire length of its dorsal fin.
Maybe we're going to have to wait a couple months on this one to see what happens as its colors increase.

the term 'peacock' usually refers to lake malawi's aulonocara species, but your fish does appear to be from lake victoria or one of its satellite lakes--you may never find out what it is.

Yes, I agree with you. It doesn't look like a Malawi Aulonocara to me either and seems at this point to have the shape and color of a Vic. We'll wait and see on this one. I just hope it's not some mystery hybrid...
