View Full Version : Trets
I was just looking through Armke's website and they have some trets available. It just so happens I will be in San Antonio next weekend for alumni weekend at my college. I will be less than 30 minutes from Armke's in San Marcos. I am going to call them and see if they would allow me to come by and purchase some fish in person. Then I could look around, get my wife caught up in the moment, buy even more fish than I told her I was going to, and not have to pay shipping. Even better, I'll get them home and in a tank in 4 hours, instead of them being shipped overnight.
Of course, I have to convince the wife to go with me. I guess we'll see :D
Maybe I can get some similis or multis while I'm there, and pick up some P. Saulousi as well. I definitely don't have enough tanks.

What's that you always say? "No Prosthelytizing" :D
I called today and they have a public showroom that is open on Sundays from 10-4. I told my wife what I wanted to do and she was a little skeptical at first. Said something about my fish habit getting a little expensive. Then I told her this was probably the #1 African cichlid supplier in the world, and that they were only 30 mins from San Antonio and kinda on the way home, plus they have some of the best prices available. She has softened up significantly, and I believe I will have a confirmation by the middle of next week. Now I just need more tanks.
Would a couple of empty rubbermaid tubs I have suffice until Christmas? time?

 rubbermaid tubs make great temporary holding tanks.
rubbermaid tubs make great temporary holding tanks
So do bathtubs.
Alright, it's looking like this:
30 gallon: 6 juv trets, 6 juv similis, 10 juv vic hap "bloyeti", dither fish of some kind
large rubbermaid tub (30"x16"x14"approx): group of 6 or so P. Saulosi until I can get my jag into a larger tank and then I'll move them to her 35. Should happen by Christmas time.
Any problems or suggestions? Any other fish I should have or substitutions I should make? Thanks.

Evidently from what I read briefly, these fish are not suitable for a community tank, would these fish get along with comps/calvus/multi's etc/shell dwellers??? Thanks, J

They are predators and can have an 'attitude'. They do best in a species tank or mixed with similar types. They are quite beautiful but not community minded.
