i was thinking of getting a single green terror for my 10 gallon tank. i have a lot of southdown sand left and i was wondering, since the green terror likes a higher ph would it be ok to put my green terror in this sandy substrate.

Is a larger tank in the future plans? If not, I would not get the Green Teror considering the Max length of 10" or so.

If you already have this planned out, then the sand should be ok. Green Terrors are not real picky about water, but prefer it on the soft side. Is this a special buffering sand? I use a regular sand blasting sand and it does not really affect the pH. As long as the pH in your tank doesn't get over 7.8 you should be fine.

i have the tank sizes planed out. when the g terror gets 5 inches ima move him to a 30 gallon but for the time being ima put him in one of my empty 10 gallons. when he out grows it all this means is that i have a new empty 10 gallon for a new fish. lol more tanks more fish.
the sand is a buffering sand and might keep my ph around 8 or 8.2. kinda like african cichlid ph. if this sand would be a hazard i could easily get 50 lbs of silica sand but i thought it would be a good idea to use the sand i have left over...50 lbs also.

If you've got african buffering sand and an empty 10 gallon tank, why not put some dwarf africans, like shelldwellers, in it? I would say hold off on the Green Terror until you get the 30 gallon. I got my GT at about 2" and he grew very fast. I've had him for almost 6 months and he's pushing 7" now. He'll need room to grow from day one, and I don't think a 10 gallon will provide it. Besides, why have one GT in the 10 when you could have 6 shellies, or a pair of convicts would be ok in there for quite a while. You get a bonus with convicts because they will provide a steady supply of healthy feeder fish. Just my opinion, and don't think I'm trying to discourage you from getting a GT. Mine is awesome, beautiful, and very interactive. :D

yeah convicts breed realy fast but i dont think they can be healthy in a 10 gallon tank they need at least 15 AT LEAST!!

well good luck w/e you decide its your tank
