I was in a pet store buying plastic background for a couple tanks and the lady at the register asked me what tanks I had. When she found out I had Pacu, Oscars, and a pike ciclid, she asked if I wanted more ciclids. Oddly, I had been considering getting some more. I really wanted some bright colored ones, as the fish I have now are not bery colorful.

I went to her house and picked out my favorite three.

Here's a pic of all of them. I have since taken out the cheesy green thing in the background. I always hated it anyway. I put in some corals and stuff. The average person would think this is a saltwater tank.

I think my favorite is the orange one. This pics show him to be a bit darker than he is. He's actually a very bright orange, as other pics will elude.

I have bare bottom in my tanks. I find that the gravels are just a mess. I have 3 tanks, all with glass bottom. I have a good bit of rocks in one tank, but they're all large ones that are stacked to privide hiding places.

The pike and Oscar are in another tank. I did put the new blue ciclid in with the Oscar, as he's a really "nice" oscar. He really isn't interested in minnows, and shows no aggression towards any of the other fish in the tank. The yellow and orange ciclids are in with 2 raphael catfish right now. These catfish don't even seem to be fun. They hide all the time, but do a good cleanup job (at night I guess).

looks like you got yourself a red zebra and an electric yellow...
the zebra may start getting VERY aggressive and kill the rest... Keep an eye out for that - it would be a shame.

You are best identifing what you got and then decide if they are meant to be together.

Good luck - nice picture!

They do well together. No more than the typical chasing to establish and maintain dominance.

I don't think they know the difference in where their species came from. :)

cobalt blue, red zebra, electric yellow lab. You'll notice how calm the lab is compared to the others. The blue can rule, mine did when he started to out grow the zebra.Well if you give them enough space ,you'll be okay. You have a great looking lab,if things get rough take care of him.Chris

engloid...

just for the record...

sa/ca sometimes/usually require different water parameters than the africans do (your newly acquired fish)...

...it's up to you..do what you want to do, but it may not be in the best interest of the fish to mix them.
(my 2 cents)

Does anyone else think that the yellow might not look to healthy?

he's kinda skinny like he hasn't eaten much. he needs some bloodworms or brine or something with some protein to alter that concave belly.

also just fyi- having gravel in the tank houses your GOOD bacteria... its very beneficial to have it in your tank

That's the problem with common names. It creates confusion, of course that happens with the changing scientific names too, but not as often.

Labidocromis caeruleus equals yellow lab and electric yellow.

No offense but this is just flat wrong. They know exactly who's who. And who's who is going to change over time. Just keep an eye on things and do some research on what you just bought is my .02:ok:

the electric yellow is sickly lookin but that can be cured if you take very good care of him if you fail just feed him to the oscar & put him out of misery... (the pseudo or the red zebra) will do well with the oscar besides water parameters but thats not the main concern it actually will beat the s*** out of the oscar once your "blue fish" gets big enough the africans on most occasions especially the mbuna are more territorial than the s. american cousins "the oscar" so watch that carefully too... anyway what i like to do for my oscar since they arent the most active fish in the world or the most colorful why dont you breed either of the three fish you just got with more of its own kind, raise the babies & when you have too many either sell them or feed em to your oscar. i raise Albino Neo. Brichardi just to feed my oscar.

The fins aren't all that blue in person. The lighting was playing tricks. They're more of a white color really. I often look in fish stores at the fish, and havn't yet seen an orange one as pretty as this one. I got it from a lady that managed a pet store, and she said that with her being there she was able to pick the nicest looking fish from what was in from the breeders.

It's been a long time since I took the pics. The yellow fish disappeared about 3 weeks ago. I suspect he was eaten, cause I havn't seen any traces of him. The orange fish is now clearly the dominant fish in the tank.
