Hi i would like to know what type of tank (malawi or tang)these guys would be best with.
I am setting up a 90 gallon mostly malawi and a 40 gallon tank with calvus.
I would love to put them with the calvus because i am having trouble decideing what to put with the calvus.
Also what type of catfish can go with the calvus that won't eat eggs because i hope one day they will breed.
Any info will be great
Thanx

Well, I have some of those guys with my altocomps right now. I don't really like having them that much. They grow at a phemonenal rate and savage anything else that wants to live in one the ground. They also have big mouths and are very aggressive feeders. That being said, they don't bother my comps much at all so long as I feed food in such a way so as to minimize the amount they can monopolize (i.e. totally thawing frozen food so they have to eat each worm or shrimp individually otherwise they'll cram the whole piece in their big mouths).
The trick about the catfish would be to make sure the head is too large to fit into the female calvus's hiding place. If he can't get in, he can't eat the eggs.
Btw, the blockheads would ideally be in a riverine tank with lesser pH than either Tangs or Malawis, but they are very adaptable.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. They would be better suited to a lower PH, as they are a west african riverine species, and not Rift lake species.
