i would look for at that size, a darker face and egg spots that have an black orbit. i have spawnes them several times and the males at 1 inch cal already show the egg spots with the orbit.

I3,
The thing is where and when i can get some they are a lot smaller than that :-(

Deadman,
For the eggspots, you dont mean the kinda black stripe along their body
I am not to sure what youre saying
sorry to let you know that i am french and some of the terms i dont get to good

(I'll try to look and figure out these details. When they are not to stressed :p )
Thanks for the info

Egg spots are the round shapes on the anal fin. That's the fin on the botoom of the fish towards the back. Heres a good picture of one.... http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/files/imagecache/news/files/20071119_fishspots.jpg

ok then
i have 2 with these yellow eggs and 1 without
the one without is larger, so this mean it is a female, and the other 2 do have eggspot but nothing dark around it so far....
these 2 seems to be male
Thanks for the info :-)

Look closely at this pic of juveniles/young adults. The fish in the center is a dominant male. See how the two egg spots are clearly defined with the dark border around them? That will sharpen with maturity. The fish in the upper right is a female. See how the single egg spot is vague--that and her basic coloration are clues to her sex. The fish in the lowe left appears to be a female also. The upper left is a sub dom male & I'd lean towards another subdom male in the lower right--but only time will tell for sure!

HTHs some.

Mine started to color right about an inch. This is where breeding started as well if the conditions were good.

Excellent pic nick and a great description.

You can sometimes go by the anal fin...This will be yellow on a lot of females and either more of a clear or coloring up anal fin on males. Sometimes you can also look at the dorsal fin...Females will often be round at the end and males will turn more into a point. These are not always 100% but can also be helpful in determining male from female.
