does anyone know what the matter with my tiger oscar, hes 2 inchs long, hes been pumping gils rapidily and lying on side?i put some stress coat in. :cry: :cry:

have you checked your ammonia levels? got enough aeration in the tank?

yep i think gypsy is right. i remember having that problem with my kenyii. i never changed the water nor did i ever use any kind of filteration. so i changed about 50% of the water and it was back to normal. from then on, i changed the water regularly. this might not be necessary if you use charcoal filteration.
The other possibility is gill flukes. maybe the addition of salt would kill those off. but i would do the water change first, evaluate 24 hrs, then proceed with plan 2 if necessary.

nope--you still need to do water changes, even if you filter.

im fine on ammonia and have a out of the tank filter plus a penguin powerhead 660 with prefilter

Laying on it's side is perfectly normal for oscars. I'm not so sure about the pumping gills though. Try offering a [b:a4afda9227]LITTLE[/b:a4afda9227] food to see if it changes behavior.
