What do you think the smallest possible tank would be that I could over- winter my two koi in? They are both about 8" long and FAT!

When digging a pond for them this spring, any suggestions?

Should I go deep, or wide, or long?

My yard is small, and the fish stick side by side all the time anyway, so I was thinking deep and about as wide around as a 50g drum.

Opinions?

Also, I need recommendations on filters anyone out there uses in their ponds. Otherwise, all I have to trust is my research and "the pond guy."

I've heard that the cooler you keep them, the less space they'll need, but I have no idea what size tank that would be.

it should be at least 4 feet deep for the koi to overwinter safely. i would make the other dimensions as large as possible.

can you set up a 55 gal for them to spend this winter in? i'd put 2 ac 500's on it.
