Hello, im setting up my new 100g and got a eheim 2217. I nevered used this type before, in my 33g i have two AC with all 3 filters in it, form, carbon, and amm. rocks.
Once my tank has done the cycle amm. rocks are pretty much a waste of money?

Anyways, what should i fill the filter with? so much to pick from and not sure what.

thanks
jay

Eifsubstrat- it's the biological media. Works great to colonize good bacteria.

All you have to do is rinse it to clean it, and you don't need to replace it.

Just got back from the eheim page. Would this be a good setup.
Bottom - Ehfimech, course filter pad, ehfisubstrat finsihed with a ehfisynth (fine filter pad).

Do i need a carbon pad? in my two AC i use all 3 filters, i guess its a waste to use ammo. rocks?

I'd put a thin fine layer before the bio-layer too to reduce plugging up the ehfisubstrat.

You really don't need carbon unless you're removing chemicals (old medications, etc.) or trying to get some of the color out of the water (like from driftwood or peat). Carbon is generally exhausted in just a few days.

Uh, yes...I forgot to mention that, since it does have a tendency to clog up without it.

Well i ended up getting the Eheim ProII 2028 biggest filter they had. Having started it up yet, but got Mech for the bottom, then course filterpad, then 2 bins of efisubstrat and ended with fine filter pad. Im just so use to using AC filters with the carbon, and amm. rocks.... which i guess is a waste.

Sounds good? Should be enough for my 100g? i would like to keep the amount of hoses and cords to a min.
thanks.

It all depends on the bioload......... what type and how many fish?

Well my 100g will be stocked with cichlids, yellow lads, peacocks, and everything that is compatiable with them, still trying to figure out the perfect mixed. Still new to cichlids, but i would like to have it stocked pretty full. On my 33g i have a 200 and a 150 AC which is a lot. I was going to take the 200 and stick it on the 100g just to jump start the cycle.

I think you'd probably need the Eheim and two power filters of reasonable size.
