I'm considering buying a new tank Juwel Trigon 350 (around 100 gallon), ultimate aim is to raise some discus.

This is supplied with a large internal filter (around 8 litre of media). Since I'm installing an external filter (eheim 2028), should I use this in combination with the internal or remove the internal?

Would the internal help as a large biological filter?

I would keep both. Discus especially need pristinely clean water to thrive and breed. If this is your intention, then keep both. You can keep the internal as you suggested - as biological. That is provided it is not too difficult to clean. It would be great to have 8 lt of bio media in any tank.

Since each filter is rated at a flow rate of approx. 1000l/h or 278 US gallon/h would this be too high for the 100gallon tank?

I can reduce the internal filter flow by replacing the impellar with a 600l/h one.
