I'm setting up a new 90gallon tank to raise discus. Is an air stone/pump necessary?
supplier of tank, Juwel, says " the use of additional air stones or air lines is not necessary with the Juwel aquariums".
I'm removing the internal filter and installing an Eheim external one instead.

welcome to the forum! i wouldn't think it would be necessary unless you want something like a bubble veil for looks...

Chiefly discus live in calmer waters, so an airstone is not necessary. Just make sure that the filter you are using gives good surface water movement, so the water stays well oxygenated. Attaching a spray bar to the Eheim will achieve this quite easily.

Thanks for your help.
I was going to use the eheim InstallationSet2 for the outflow. this is a standard pipe, with several small holes.

i wouldent use an air stone. discus are used to calm water with fairly low oxigen. the only prob with the sparay bar is that u get a lot of evaporation. i dont use any airstones or spay bars just make sur that the surface of the water is moving and is visibly "turnig over"

Thanks Ander, what do you then use on the outlet? Or you leave the pipe as it is?
