View Full Version : "Assorted African Cichlids" and Identification

You're of course always welcome to post descriptive text, preferably accompanied by a clear photograph or two, in your search for the species name of your fish.

That said, please keep in mind that should your unidentified swimming object (USO) come from a tank labeled "Assorted Africans" (or some variation thereof), chances are pretty good that you have a hybrid which can't be identified as a species because, well, a hybrid isn't a species.


Granted, not all "assorteds" are hybrids; moreover, we're not--at all--trying to dissuade you from seeking the ID of any cichlid, whether from the "assorted" bin or elsewhere. And no "hybrids are evil" sermon here--just a fair warning that attempts at identifying such cichlids often prove difficult at best.
