We've already got a thread that ask you to choose your favorite picture from another member but what I'd like to do here is highlight some of our own pictures. I have a strange fascination for Victorians and only grow fonder as my fish get older and more colored up. My camera stinks but every once in a while I sneek a decent picture. I'll begin with a picture I took today. Please feel free to add some of yours also!

IMO, If you picked it up without a location name, it should be considered an Aquarium Strain by default. But, that's just me being super careful about not accidentally mixing fish in my tanks or someone else's. If you make a mistake and pass on young with the wrong ID, you could accidentally screw up someone else's population. Better to not take the chance, especially with at risk fish that are easily confused, like Vics.

Yes absolutely, it's best with Vics to always err on the side of caution. Hopefully some new exports will happen (and we all have to do our best to keep the new ones straight) or we can find clean lines and continue to maintain them. Even with these new imports--it's hard to get consistancy. I'm not exactly sure what to call the p. n. (mwanza) yet. I've seen Red Mwanza/Mwanza West?Red Mwanza West etc....... since Mwanza Gulf is quite a large area, I really wish we had something a little more localized :uh: The "west" that was in the original importers description clearly? indicates the western side of the gulf but.........

this is my 2.5 inch male. this species was not too long ago believed to be a hybrid. however since they have being bred out in europe with no change in them, it has led thoes who decide such things that they are infact a species from the lake victoria region. however the exact original collection point has been lost to history. this male also has a rival male and 6 females.

This is one of the xystichromis phytophagus that I got from deadman on Tuesday. He's only about 1.25" but starting to color up and show some interests in the ladies. He's very timid so it's hard to get a good picture.

My first fulu spawn has started!!:jump: This picture does him no justice but he just isn't sitting still for anything today!!:split: My male/female ratio also appears to be ideal at 2/7!

Mbipia cf. lutea "spotbar" yala swamp(female) 1.25"
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2009-04-09/254303-003.jpg
I would like to make a correction to this post. This is my first time working with mbipia cf. lutea and I just assumed that the females were the ones that looked obviously different. Well, yesterday I saw what looked like one of the males holding so I did some investigating. It turns out that there was a mix up from the dealer I got them from. The 4 "blotchy" ones are actually Paralabidochromis sp. "red fin piebald". Mistakes happen so I'm calling it lucky that the two species are different enough that there shouldn't be any inbreeding.
Here's an actual picture of the female holding. It's my first mbipia spawn so I'm pretty excited.

OK, all is well here in my miniature Lake Victoria. All fish are doing well. I rounded up a few more pictures but photobucket keeps giving me an error message when I try to upload. I did manage to get a few though.
First I'll start with my kyoga flamebacks that I got from Kevin. These are an incredibly beautiful fish and I have my first female ready to strip any day now!

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0605junepix0008.jpg
This is a Rock Krib strain that I haven't positively identified yet but it is a real looker. I know Kevin will move it if it belongs in the "hybrid" thread.

My LFS owner had a tank set up at a school and he just broke it down and offered me the inhabitants. The fish are a group of rock kribensis that he says he purchased as F1's. There's 4 males and 2 females, 3 of the males are nearly 5" long and different from any of the usual fish of this species that I usually see. First some pictures of the males.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0611newkribs0006.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0611newkribs0009.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0611newkribs0005.jpg
And this is what the females look like. They're in the 3" range.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0611newkribs0008.jpg
Still not sure if I'm gonna pick them up yet but would appreciate any feedback on them.

Ok, a few new Vix Pix to satisfy the hunger for the species some of us have fallen for so deeply! I'll include a few updates from my domain of Little Victoria with the new pictures.
First I'll start with the beautiful mbipea cf lutea. Sorry Kevin, my holding female lost her first batch but I'm hoping for more action soon.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0619june190003.jpg
Next I'll show a picture of my "ruby green". Out of all the fry I got fro Kevin, I ended up with 4 females so I'm trying to hook them up with this guy. He's more interested in showing off for the yellow top mbamba I have in the tank though!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0619june190004.jpg
Next is the "red fin piebald" female which is FINALLY holding so I'm looking forward to my first spawn.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0619june190002.jpg
And now on to the "kyoga flameback" which is in a class of it's own. These guys are knockouts when they put on their breeding colors. Sorry Ross, out of the seven fry I had, one died and 5 appear to have been sucked through the bottom of the nursery.(one left) I'll call it a learning experience and keep your name on the list for the next batch.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0619june190007.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0619june190008.jpg
Next I had a pair of "rock kribensis" that got to big to hang with the juvies they were housed with. The male is about 2.5" and I did what I totally wouldn't recommend to beginners. I housed them with 2 small EBJD's, an angel, and 6 juvie
"maleri islands". They're doing well together and i really like the composition so I'm sticking to it for now! Sorry about the poor picture but you'll have those occeasionally!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/wildchild692007/2009_0619june190006.jpg
I've got juvie "christmas fulu's" and "zebra obliquidens" coming out my ears so if anyone is interested please PM me. And last but not least. Love your Vics!:ok:

Well, it's been a while since I've done any updating but I'm still plugging away with 9 tanks of Victorians and only grow more fascinated with them as time passes.
Today's pictures are of my dominant male Astatotilapia Calliptera. My male is finally getting towards the 3" range and really starting to shake it so it shouldn't be long until they breed. He NEVER sits still so it's really hard to get any decent pictures!:ugly1:

My Mbipea cf Lutea yala swamp "spotbar" continue to be one of my favorite Vics next to Kyogas. I've found them to be pretty aggressive so I keep 2 males and 5 females in a 55g. and they breed like rabbits. The males definitely have their own ends of the tank though!

The fish are gorgeous Jeff. How big are the males? Not only do they have striking colors, but to me they look kind of evil. I like that. ;-)

This male is in the 4" range but I actually have one closer to the 5" range. And they are about the most evil Vic I've personally dealt with.:saw:
