OK, here is the closest pic I could find of the cichlid I have. I bought it out of a tank marked Kenyi.

It is about a little over an inch and is deep red with vertical stripes. It has reflective jewels on the gills and dots on the anal fin.

I am thinking it's a rusty?

Although this one does not have stripes, unless it is only on the juvies.

The rusty (Iodotropheus sprengerae) is a brown cichlid with purpleish sides and no stripes. I'm not sure why you think this looks like a fish that is deep red with vertical stripes.

The Kennyi male starts out blue with stripes and changes to yellow with some stripes. As it matures it loses the stripes...especially if it is the dominant fish in the tank.

Do a google search under the name Mylandia lombardoi or Metriaclima lombardoi (formerly Pseudotropheus kennyi). This is all the same fish by different names. Maybe that's what you have?
