my oscar always did this but in my other tank in a separate room my gt and jd have learned to smack the top of the lid and annoy the sht out of me until i feed them or give them some sort of attention. association with food coming from there, but it kinda cool that even a fish can learn behavior! Pavlov would be proud.
these guy can also bite pretty hard they just started attacking me while my hands in there lol. but the glass magnet there scared of!?
just wanted to share like a proud father lol :D

A friend of mine has a large Malawi tank setup in his den. His front door enters adjacent to the den. When he pulls into the driveway, his two dogs run to the front door and when they do, his cichlids also charge the corner of the tank and wait for him to walk in. Its crazy, but they have learned that when the dogs run to the door, dad is home. Its pretty crazy that fish can actually be intelligent.

OZ, thats pretty cool!
Mine if I walk in now sometimes do what I call a "yawn" at me. If they're hungry.
They will open up their mouths as wide as they can go and spread their fins.
It's a pretty cool sight.
Only one of them did it at first.
Now two of my 5 are doing it. :D
Cichlid see Cichlid do....

I love these stories, keep em comin. My guys are relentless beggers. Every time I go near the tank they want food. My Oscar goes back and forth with her mouth open and it's becoming a very large mouth. It looks like my JD talks to me during feeding time. She/he appears to be chattering like a person who's cold. Pretty cool to watch.

:lol2: OMG, The op story made me LOL- Litterally :lol2:
I dunno what sound my larger of the two bp is making however, I hear like a snap noise and she is at the water line when I look over to see what made the noise, I laughed cause the op said it annoyed the **** out of him, these guys are still in the 3-4 inch range, i can imagine how much more annoying behaviors are coming :yow:
