I have 8 full sized labs and I was wondering why they have stopped spawning. I realize all the fish were smaller before including my catfish.... Any how here is how it all lays out. I have had quite a few sucessful spawns with my labs in the past. Recently they have stopped all together.

1)I have never stripped a holding female.

2)For sure none of the breeders died.

3)My 8 Cuckoo Catfish have grown and become much less shy during daylight.

4)My 3 Electric Blue Johnies have tried to spawn 3 or 4 times unsucessfully

5)My Red top zebra is trying to breed with the labs and is stopping them from breeding because he bigger than all my labs and has established male dominance due to the same solid coloration? (this is just a speculation I have not seen this actually happening)

6)All my fish have grown to full size almost in a 25 gallon tank maybe one of the other labs has caught up for male dominance and no 1 has established it because the other species in my tank already established an alpha male.

Solutions/ suggestions welcome but take in mind this was my experiment tank for catfish spawning w/ lab hosts.

Remove the zebra and Johanni's . Both the zebra and johannies are too aggresive for that size tank. There are way too many adult fish in a 25 G tank. Just keep the labs and the catfish in there. I guess that everyone is getting in each others way. The catfish may be eating the eggs. If there are not sexually mature, they will just eat the eggs of the others.

I think its b/c you posted in the Cihclid breeders forum, try posting stuff like this in the Malawai forum.

We'll see if this gets you some more responses.

I can't tell you how many times I post and watch a thread get 400 views and two responses. It's just forum life. :)

I agree with Heyguy74... How can these fish establish a breeding territory in that sized tank? ONE fish will have adequate territory and none of the others will.... sounds like that one fish is the red zebra. I would make a tank that small a single species tank! Even then 8 fish is really tight! Just go with the Labs and the cats!

ok cool. Sounds like my zebra and johanies are going into the 25 gallon hex. Is that going to work out with 6 yoyo loaches and a chinese algea eater? I am eventually going to grow the loaches large enough to put one in each tank.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but when are you going to acquire proper housing for your pets? I would really hate to see you learn through the death of your pets.

Well I have the 125 gallon but it is a demasoni tank. I have been meaning to move my 25 gallon into my 60 but my GF moved and I got stuck with 2 red eared sliders so they took my 60 gallon. She had them in a 10 gallon and they are like 6" each.
