Greetings and Salutations All!

I'm new to this forum, but definately not new to this trade. Glad I stumbled upon this message board - my happiness if near complete!!

I'm looking for people who know about african catfish. I recently bought a tank to showcase two pairs of juvenile S. petricolas as well as a Multipunctatus catfish. Alas they never made it out of the store, but I still have hope!! Granted this is a little off topic from cichlids, but I have always been a firm believer that an african tank is not complete without the addition of these animated bottom dwellers. Anybody have any suggestions on some unique catfish, or anybody know any breeders?

Info is greatly appreciated!

here's an auction for s. petricola. this one is ending soon, but there's usually someone on aquabid selling them as well as a lot of other types of cats. i wish i had a spot for some of those 'honeycomb tatias'--i think that they are gorgeous. in various tanks, i have synodontis multipunctatus, petricola, nyassae, ocellifer, nigriventris and eupterus. i've got a few varieties of corydoras, brochis, otocinculus, a spotted rafael(bumblebee), a striped rafael, and an asian upside down cat--i love catfish, too!

Hey! Awesome site, do people generally get good results when purchasing from the net? Most of my africans have been bought directly through Cichlid Exchange, but I'm finding that they lack in catfish availability. We had a local breeder for S. petricolas, but he yanked his heater and filter from the wall and left the tank to die after a nasty divorce  The last 4 babies died when some greasy kid dipped is oily fingers into the tank and we didn't catch it in time. I honestly didn't think I'd see them for sale again... thanks for the link :D

PS. It was a toss up for me, either an african tank for my petricolas, or a s. american community tank for the corys. I'm doing a good job of convincing myself that yes.. I do have enough space in my tiny apartment for just one more tank..... !

 sure sounds familiar! i have very good success with my purchases on the net, although, there is the occasional knucklehead who'll screw you. but i find the risk level acceptable for the opportunity to get all kinds of fish that i'd only read about or seen in magazines and books. :D

Hi Cat,

What a shame... I was in Augusta, Bangor and Machias this last weekend. AND I drove within a couple miles of a guy that could have sent all the multis and petricola you could ever want with me for you?

Good news is he still has the fish and will ship if you want. Or you could make a deal with him and I can bring them to Me. next time I go. We are looking to buy a house in/around Winslow so there will be a few more trips in the near future.

Email mrsyno@hotmail.com and tell him Pete from the Vineyard sent you.

Thanks so much for the offer Pete! I'll send him an email later on this evening.

You picked a great weekend to drive up to Maine :) Peak foliage... ahhh what a beautiful place Maine can be.

We will be going back Nov. 9, 10, 11. or 10,11,12. Let me know if you want me to deliver them. We were actually going to go again this w/e but decided to wait for the financing before going shopping.

Maine beautiful yes, the main attraction for us though is the cost of housing...we can get a house there for 120K with acreage that would cost 500K here and would have less land.
