Hopefully I have not screwed this up.

Yesterday I noticed my Green Serveum had popeye. He has had a fungus for the past five days and I was treating with aquarisol. Then I lost a O.lithobates in the same tank, so I changed the water on Friday night. Saturday morning I noticed the Serveum had popeye. I had a wedding to get ready to photograph, but I had just enough time to set up a hospital tank for my old Serveum.

This Serveum is about 10 years old at least. He is about 12-14 inches long.

The tank I retrieved him from has a ph of 7.8 A=0 Ni=0 Nitrate=.20

I proceeded to treat him with Marycyn. Today I added Melafix to his treatment.

I don't know what to do other than this.

His eye has swelled out about 1 1/2 inches from his face and its all white and cloudy. The other eye seems to be fine.

Anyone think I've done too much here or think I could do something else that would work better? Your opinions and thoughts are most welcome and appreciated.

I have decided to use Melafix as the medication and discontinue the use of Marycyn. From searches I have found that Melafix usually does a better job at fixing this problem.

I use Melafix and ampicillin for popeye. Usually disappears in three to four days, but you have to watch the levels in the hospital tank because of the ampicillin.

Thanks Merlyn, he is looking very bad right now, both his eyes are popped out big time and he has little white marks all over his head.

Do you use the two meds together?

He still swims fine but he is not eatting. Most fish don't eat in such a small confine anyway.

I just changed the water (about a 35%) the temp is around 82F and I just treated with Melafix.

Bruno didn't make it :(

I had to put him down. He was done in by the infection and I could not take it seeing him in such torturous shape.

He lived about 11 years I think, he had a pretty good life until I mixed africans in with him. He lived four years with africans. I will never mix SA's and africans again.

good decision bout not mixing africans and sa.sorry bout your loss.Severums are truly nice fish.I hate hearing that that happened to yours.I lost my two oscars not to long ago. i had them for two years one was a red tiger 10 inches the othe was a red oscar 7.5 inches. Both died from internal parasites.I hate the fealing of dealing with a fish whose dying or dead.It sucks.
