I will be getting a new tank for christmas and was thinking i would like to try africans this time. The only cichlid that i have kept so far are angels. I hope to get a tank that is either a 40gal long or a 55 gal. I definantly want electric yellows(L. caeruleus ) in my tank(i've liked these since i was little and like how they aren't too aggresive.
So I jsut want some opinions on what tank mates wold go best with yellow labs.I also love peacock cichlids(Aulonocara sp.)and was wondering if i could mix these too. basically i would like some tankmate suggestions of any kind. I am asking so early, even before i have the tank becuse i want to really research this so i don't have too much aggresion.
oh yeah and my ph is 8.0 Gh11 kh8
I will be providing a rock wall with los of caves and will also be including a bristle nose pleco or some other pleco for future algea control.
thanks for listening, I thought it was time to learn about cichlids since i read this forum and really love the behaviours of these fish.Sorry its so long

welcome degrassi :D --peacocks are excellent tankmates for labs, as are iodotropheus sprengarae(rusties). you might also consider fish from lake victoria, like astatotilapia latifasciata(zebra obliquedens). have fun planning your tank!

Hey Degrassi, where you at???
If in the Toronto area (as degrassi would suggest), I may be able to help you out with some of you fish needs. I have Labids and Vic Hap sp. 44, and Blue regals (not 100% about puting them in with 44's, as I think hybidization would be very likely) you can come over and take a look any time before, or after you get this tank running
Cheers

Ya, Rudy has it... I get sick of typing long formal names, but I do understand the importance of it. Today I had a guy ask me if i wanted blue flashes, you try figuring out which one!
Cheers

Yellow labs might be considered less agressive but sometimes they aren't. I had a yellow lab kill three fish before I realized it was him. It depends on the fish - not the species . . .

You sure can, but I will suggest that you try to source someone in your area, althought I am very proud of my fish,I think you will find them in your area for less than freight from Toronto.
You can keep your posts here as well, as I am sure that there are many of us who would be more than willing to help in any way we can.
Rudy you're only 3 hours from Edmonton, right? Maybe you can help to find what Degrassi wants.
And CJ, yes they are and for the time being they are mine. Your invite still stands, I will be getting them on friday.
Cheers,
Jay
