It is very hard to take pictures of fish. Need one of those under water cameras.

Well the second one is a Zebra Obliquens.... AKA Astatotilapia Latisfasciatus. Can't help with the first....

Is it normal for the Astatotilapia Latisfasciatus to be so dark? or did i just get bad genes? Also what is the diff. between Astatotilapia Latisfasciatus and Astatotilapia latifasciata??

I have no idea what the first one is either. The color often changes a bit as they get older, so maybe we'll have better luck with the ID in a few months.

Some one once mentioned that the name ending often changes to match the genus. Haplochromis latifasciatus becomes Astatotilapia latifasciata, Haplochromis nubilus becomes Astatotilapia nubila etc. No idea why .... or if it's true.

Mine was never as dark as yours, but I've seen pictures of others very much like yours. Some other vic species I've kept have had a "dark stage" and then lightened up. I don't think the color is necessarily a reason for concern.

let me see if i can get a better pic of the first one... The Astatotilapia latifasciata is about 3"- 3.5" which i believe is pretty much full grown eh? I also have about 12 Astatotilapia latifasciata fry (about 3/4") growing out right now in my 20L, the parents looked diff. then this one (not nearly as dark, no red on tail, really silver with the red/yellow belly). would it be fine to have these in the tank together once they get big enough (1 male and 4 females)? (this may sound like a stupid question) if they were to breed with this dark one thats not any kind of hybrid is it?...would it be fine to keep these in a 55gal. with 3 labs, 1 red top zebra, and 1 johanni for the long run? (all are around 2" so far).
