my 38gal tank is heavily planted, has a 55gal powerfilter(filter is 5-6 years old, 60 gal air pump with two air stones and a bubble wall, and a double tube under gravel filter with carbon filter on each tube, oh and the power filter has nerfilter with a carbon filter. I also put some used gravel on the bottem to start bacteria.

is this over doing it for cichlids(firemouths or festiviums) and there are calm places in the tank

post pic soon

Maybe the water agitation might be too much, but you can never over-do filtration. More is better.

what I realy like doing is getting flower pots and drill the bottem so I can put a airstone in it, and put it on its side you can make fast little bubbles or big slow ones considering how you angle it
it a cool techniqe

Not over-aerated, over-agitated. If you get too much current, some species will be uncomfortable because they come from waters that don't have too much current. On the flip side, some species need that mvoement and filtration. You'd haev to look at the species you want to keep to figure out what sort of waters they live in.

There is plenty of aeration in this tank, but I doubt the agitation is too much at the deeper levels. This set up seems fine to me.
