Our tap water is extremely low with a minimal PH. We bought a new test kit with a greater range or readings... and once again its the lowest. 5.4. PH

So, still determined... we resorted to importing water from our parents house. Their tap is 7.4

Doing our first 25% water change we were able to increase our PH to 6.6

How much of a PH increase could we expect by adding crushed coral and lime stone to the tank?

Chance are your water has little to no buffering ability.Try adding baking soda to the tap water. That will raise the ph and the KH. The crushed coral and limestone will help also by raising GH. Try putting some of the crushed coral in your filters. This will help buffer the water better, than it being in your tank.

Are there fish in the tank? If so bring the ph up slowly. No more than +/- 0.2 per day. Too much of an increasein one day will stress the fish.
