I think I wrote in the wrong sectino of the forum sorry :(

I am new to this forum but I've kept my 40 gallon freshwater plant tank for probably 2 years now. I have just finished transporting my Brilliant Rasboras, cherry barbs, and 2 Otocinclus to a 20 gallon tank with plastic plants and a piece of driftwood (the tank has been cycling for several months).

In my 40 gallon tank, I have plants, algae, planara (too much food I thinK :|), and red clayish gravel for the plants to clamp onto.

If I want to convert to having the yellow/blue cichlid species, is a 40 gallon enough? and what changes will I need to do as far as changing the aquarium environment?

I have a heater and an Emperor 400 with 2 biowheels running at this time. The lighting I use is good for plants. If there is a FAQ, please let me know

welcome to the forum!:) i'm not sure what you mean by the blue/yellow cichlid species...that could cover a lot of different species. your tank would be suitable for the dwarf species: pseudotropheus saulosi which has blue males and yellow females, but i would not advise it for pseudotropheus(metriaclima/maylandia) lombardoi(kennyi), which tend to be very aggressive, especially in close quarters.

you might start off by reading some of the threads in the beginner's forum, the general african cichlids forum, and the malawi forum. do a search of the forums using the keyword: compatibility.

Thanks SGypsyMermaid :)

I actually wanted the lombardoi in the tank. however, maybe it sounds like i should not huh? I tried to do a search on "tank size" but didn't try compatibility yet :)
