My Placidachromis Phenochilus female "Josette" just came down with a cloudy eye. I am besides myself freaking out. She is one of my favorite fish. My water parameters are fine, everything is where it should be. Ammonia 0.0 Nitrite 0.0 Nitrate 20.0 PH 7.8
I have looked over many fish diesease sites and have found nothing helful. Has anyone had to treat this before? I have added a lot of salt to the tank. I added aquarisol as well.
Help me!
Update: She seems to have her normal healthy Placidachromis appetite. I turned the lights off the tak and added tons of salt. I am going to buy some melafix to see if that helps her. I have read elsewhere that melafix and malachite green work well.

Is this desease caused by bacteria? if so, salt wont help according to a web source i looked at. i believe the treatment for bacterial infections is a green dye. but it also said that the green dye would kill the good bacteria too, therefore, would cause an ammonia/nitrite spike. in that case, the fish is supposed to be removed to a temporary tank to be treated.

I am trying to decide if it is bacteria right now. She seems to be doing ok for now, the lights are off and her lens is clearing somewhat. I have read (thanks to SGM's great links in the other "cloudy eye" thread :D) that fish with bacteria infections lose their appetite, and her's is still normal. I am hoping that she just injured the eye, and I am planning on changing the rock-scape of the tank. This tank has some dangerous flat rocks, they provide great cover, but a fish could very well injure an eye or get a scrape to the head or body.

Her eye is slowly getting better. :)
I have administered Melafix once a day to the tank, raised the temp above 80, and keep the lights off. She has been eating like normal, but I noticed that she was banged up a bit.
Later on, I noticed my midget RZ trying to attack her injured eye. He actually dive bombed her. Josette is a tough fish, and can take it as well as ditch it out. But, I did not have to pay 35 bucks for my RZ. Needless to say, I put him back in the 90g for a little reality check. No one messes with my Josette!!

glad to hear Josette is better I just read about melafix and it sounds too good to be true, but it sounds like it is working for you :D

i've had good success with melafix, also. OA--maybe your rz needs to be introduced to my ill-mannered d. compressiceps who was banished to the 90 gal. mbuna tank, also!
