I don't see why not...

Just check the pH every day for a couple weeks after to see how the wood is going to effect it... if at all.

I live in a rural setting so I was wondering has anyone every put old fence posts in a tank. Not pressure treated ones but the old cedar ones theat were all crooked

WELL I ADDED THE DRIFT WOOD TO MY TANK I SOAKED IT IN A BUCKET FOR A COUPLE DAYS AND AM CHECKING MY PH SEEMS TO BE THE SAME ALTHOUGH I HAVE HEARD IT LOWERS PH THANKS FOR THE ADVISE EVERYONE
