There are some fish that just don't appeal to me. I'm not particularly interested in albinos, OB or piebald fish or those big lipped cichlids like M. dialeptos or the Labeotropheus with the funky lips.
But I bought some Paralabidochromis chromogynos at an auction at a very low price (probably because no one knew what they were) and I gotta say I'm likin' 'em. :)
Since MattV was actually right about this fish, I thought I'd give him some credit.

I'm confused.
I mean, I know I'm right about chromogynos being awesome fish, but the mbuna confuses me...

I referred to the Melanochromis dialeptos as an example of a big lipped cichlid that I didn't care for, but I meant to say Melanochromis labrosus.
I'm pleasantly surprised at how much yellow the chromogynos show. The ones I had seen previously were completely white and black with no hint of yellow. The males have less blotching and a blueish sheen to their dorsal fins. Very nice.

Ah. ok. i don't like the big lips either.
mine show quite a bit of yellow, too. when the male gets in the mood, he looks black from a distance with a deep red tail. when you get close, you see blues and reds and purples.
how big are yours now?
