I have been thinking about making some "caves" out of slate and glueing sections together with silicone adhesive for ease of movement. Will the adhesive cause any harmful effects?
Thanks, Sam

As long as the silicone is completely cured before going in the tank you will be fine(24-48 hours). I have a piece of driftwood in a tank this way. It has been there for months without problems. I used the clear stuff from ACE hardware. I says "safe for food preperation areas" or something like that in the fine print.

Thanks for the info Pete! Any experience cutting slate? I have a hacksaw blade that is sort of like a cable with sharp points on it. It says it cuts ceramics, glass, brick, concrete and marble. What do you think? I figure that even if I can only deeply score the stone, then it will break off fairly straight.
