For veggie loving cichlids lettuce is fine...just try to get Romaine type lettuce...or spinich. You can also feed them halved of quartered zuchini. They love it. On the lettuce...you dont even have to cut it up. I buy romaine lettuce "hearts" and wash a leaf and tie it to a small rock and drop it in...it will attemp to float and stand on end. The fish will nibble on it until it is just a stalk...remove stalk.....save rock for next time. Good for clown loaches too!
Dinner......." on a stick...or, errrr stalk " :rofl2:
Also can try spirulina sticks and or flakes. 100% spirulina are IMO best for herbivores.

you are correct...a good varied diet makes for healthy , happy fish. Just take is slow , in case there is a problem...you will be qable to tell if food is related and what food may have casued it.... A log of maintenance and feeding is a really good idea. It takes a bit of time, but not only will it help you make sense of future problems by having something to reflect on...it is kinda cool to go back after 6 months and look at what you have done.
