Would a protein skimmer provide any benefit to a freshwater tank? Would it be worth the price and maintenance?

I'm asking because I know a guy who will sell me a decent model for really cheap, and I thought I might get it if it would help out at all.

Fresh water lacks the density to allow foam fractionation.

That's the fancy way of saying that if you don't have a marine aquarium, all you can do with a protien skimmer is mix martini's :D

So if I break down my reef tanks they'd be worthless. I don't drink.

Maybe I can use them to mix chocolate milk? :?
