Hi guys i have noticed that my temp has just raised up to 30 and i have turned my heater down but it dont seem to be dropping. what shall i do.

Switch it out with a new one. Sounds like it got stuck on?

Naa it aint stuck on would it have any thing to do with the heater being next to the stick on glass thermometer???

well i have turned the heater of and moved it away from the thermometer and it hasnt dropped so i am guessing the thermometer is nackerd!! i have also dipped a thermometer in the water and its reading 81 (27) get back to me asap

81 is ok for african cichlids. 80 is better but 81 wouldnt/shouldnt hurt them any.
Cichlids like temps between 74 and 82 deg F

My tanks are all at around 79-80. 81 won't kill them, but if it goes up, you should definitely check it out. I'd take a tall plastic cup with cold water, suspend the heater in it, and see if it heats that and how quickly. That at least lets you know the heater works. Your tank shouldn't cool off too much in the time it will take to heat a 32oz cup of water.

Rockhaven won't drop below 82F with the heaters unplugged in the dead of winter in my basement! (Yeah those (4) pumps heat the water pretty well)

I don't like my tank water over 79F if I can help it, but the fish can easily tolerate up to 84F.
