I was wanting a different look for my new 55 which is housing my Jack and Tinfoils that were previously in a 29. Can I use substrate that is marketed for marine aquariums or africans?

I saw a bag of Carib Seafloor or something like that it was crushed sea shellls. Would that be ok for freshwater?

I am assuming I should stay away from african cichlid substrate right?

The African Cichlid Substrate is fine. Thats what I use in my 55 with my Malawi Peacocks. As for the Carib Seafloor I don't know never tried it.

The Marine products like the African Cichlid products will buffer your water and raise your PH above 8.0 so any of them should work.
