I just picked up a this group for $21 on Aquabid and I'm psyched!

Trio ( 3 ) of Lamprologus brevis ( Katabe)

Saw these guys at the lfs where I get most of my fish and they wanted $59.00 each for them. Even though they're having a "buy on get one free sale" because they're moving, a trio or quad would have cost me way more than this trio - even WITH shipping! :)

I know some of you guys (esp. SGM) do business with this seller, so hope all goes well. He has great feedback.

Pics as soon as they arrive!

(Now got to figure out how to break it to my husband! :sygypsy: )

I like Aquabid. The answer to how you fill out a group of Altocomps and a group of petricola without delegating your entire paycheck to it.

I definately will. He seems like a real professional. Prompt emails; definate answers to questions, etc.

Hope they're as cute as they look in the pictures. They're so tiny!

Still haven't told Tom (my husband) they're coming yet. :nervous: He was on a tirade today, "How can you buy something sight unseen? And how can you ship fish through the mail with enough air?"
You know how it goes...
(He'll get over it! )

Wow - can't wait to see the pictures. I really want to get some of those but there is a possible move in my future and I'm reluctant to start up any more tanks. Perhaps some day we could trade some fry!

Sounds good to me! :)

If you noticed, I went for the brevis, instead of the occelatus. I wanted to add a bit of "pearl" white to my tank.

Just wondering if these are F1 fry or whatever if you know.

The brevis I am getting are supposed to be F0, but now that you mention it, I have to look back to see where I read it, because I could be wrong!

Can you tell us the sellers name or is it a secret. I would like to get some someday.

No secret... it was the title of my thread!
I won an Aquabid auction. The specific vendor/seller was Benny's Tropical Fish. I only bid on it because I saw that SGM had and also because he has good feedback.

The one selling the gold ocellatus I wanted about two weeks ago (when I mentioned to you I'd like some in your thread about Ozzie and Harriet) did not have that many auctions and the ones he did have were feedbacks left by only a few of the same bidders. That type of thing always makes me suspicious. My husband and I are avid eBay-ers and that is something they always warn you of on any auction site. Anyway...
The little lovlies arrive on Wednesday! :D I already cleaned out the 10g so they can "adjust" to the quarantine for a few weeks, then it's into the 55g which I am changing over this week to sand. Ugh! Not for the sand, but for the changeover! What a pain.

Hey finz, wait a little while until they spawn.
I have an Airborne Express account and thanks to SGM, I now know how to properly bag fish for an overnight shipping. She gave me the link to a great website. I'm hoping to auction some of my own Labeo.trewavasae OB fry soon on Aquabid.

I just looked through my emails from Benny's to check; these brevis are wild. Can't wait to see them. They should be arriving soon.

:D

Well I got them and they were a very nice size. They were the exact description given and he sent shells in with them for nothing. (I saw the shells alone sell for $1.50-$3.00 at different places online.) That was plus #1. They were sent out of FL at 3:48 P.M. the day before and got to my door at 9:58 A.M. the next morning. He shipped Airborne Express.

When the fish arrived, they were packed so well, I almost couldn't find them under all the packing. Heat pack was just warm enough. I tested the bag temp before I started to float and it was 78. I floated them and dripped them for a little over an hour. They showed virtually no signs of stress, except the usual, "let me out of this bag."
I then put them in their quarantine. I did not treat them as they seemed to be healthy. I put their shells in and right away the male claimed his, the only problem was that the one female had already gone into it. There was a slight dispute with him and she promptly kicked him out to the shell next door. The other smaller female just hovered in the back by the heater. I didn't feed them that morning, because they were in an out of their shells every time I walked by, but by around 7 P.M. they were swimming around so I dropped in a few flakes during my feeding the other tanks and they gobbled!

I was very pleased. They made it through quarantine with no problems and so last weekend they went into the 55g with other Tangs. I just picked them up in their shells and gently placed the shells down in the sand. No sooner did I take my hand out of the water, than they were swimming around exploring their new home. Of course my A. Calvus white Chaitika was first to check them out! I guess he figured some tasty fry might be coming out of those shells.

They've been in there for a week and all seems well. They swim and dig happily. I got some new shells for the male because only half his body fits into the shells he has now. He should be much happier when I put them in tomorrow.

My husband loved these fish so much, he made me get two more Katabe at the lfs so we will have a small colony. :D

All in all I will definately do business with these folks again. They were great communicating, packing, shipping, and the fish were exactly like described. Besides, the price was good. With shipping and everything I paid $58 total for three fish and shells. The two we got at the lfs cost $59 with no shells, and that was only because they were buy one get one free! Otherwise I would have paid $118 plus tax.

Not the greatest pics in the world, but...these are some very interesting and cute little fish!

The male is the largest one, of course.

These 2 are not from Benny's. My husband liked them so much, he got more. They aren't "Katabe" though, but there is a male and female. Will probably move these guys to a 10g of their own and get a couple more.

Really like those cichlids, especially the red dots on the head.

I am not certain, but they may be. The body color is a bit darker than the sunspots I have seen when checking pictures online.
The store my husband acquired them from simply labelled them "L. brevis." Not very helpful! Plus he paid $59 for the pair.
