I have a 75 gallon tank that of recently is staying cloudy on a regular basis despite water changes and or chemical treatments. My pH is fairly stable around 8.0 to 8.2. The KH is around 20 at the present time and the GH is around 15. The water temp. is kept around 81 to 82 degrees. Outside of the temp. of the water, the numbers quoted are basically what comes out of my tap. When I had my Africans in a 30 gallon tank I never had this problem. I have had the 75 gallon for about 3 weeks now. Maybe I have not adjusted to the larger volume of water and what it takes to keep it at the right conditions. Any thoughts on how I can improve the water condition are greatly appreciated.

welcome rick :D --sounds like that tank is cycling. you probably have a bacterial bloom. did you transfer rocks, gravel, and/or filter media from the old tank? if not, your new tank is just cycling and it can take up to six months to complete. keep an eye on your ammonia/nitrite levels, and do water changes if necessary. the water will clear up once the tank has finished cycling.

Thanks for the info. I did transfer some rocks from the old aquarium. I'll make sure to watch the ammonia and nitrite levels.
