View Full Version : Cultured stone backgrounds

I have an Idea of using cultured stone for the back ground and decorations in my tank. Has any one out there done this befor. Will it be safe for my cichlids for would it leech stuff in to the tank.
Please let me know.

bee na while since your post but if you are talking about that "faux stone" product builders use on houses instead of stone...then I have seen it used in/on/near fish ponds outside....does this make it aquarium safe....no, but maybe worth checking in to ...call the manufacturer of the company you are looking to buy from to be sure///would like to see it done though

I have a 255 gallon set up now 2 years with Tanganyikans. I have had no problems with any water peramiters due to use of these stones. I applied each stone to the glass surface using a silocone bead around the outside edge of the stone. I thought this would help prohibite food and waste build up behind the stones. It appears to have worked to date. I will try to post a digital photo in the future. I did find that there is a huge choice of colors and styles of stone to work with.
