baking soda/ male & female

is baking soda safe as a buffer for my fish if so how much should i put per gallon? how could i tell if my fish is a male or female and is it easily visable in the young? sorry for all the questions i just want to try to do it rite the first time.

I don't know how much baking soda you need. We can't tell you your fish's sex without knowing which species you have. Most African cichlids I've seen look like females until they reach sexual maturity. Even then they sometimes look the same.
