I currently use the python system for doing water changes in my 55. However, as we know, using the python to remove water from the tank requires wasting a similar amount of fresh tap water.

So, I'm trying to rig up a simple water pump to the python to pull the water out and into the garden (which has obvious positives for the plants). :)

So... can anyone recommend a water pump that'll both work dry, externally, and that fits the python hose?

I've already done this....

I use a Rio 1000 because the vinyl hose slips over the output snugly. I start the syphon with both going and once the air is out of the lines I then shut down the Python and just let the pump go... I find it moves a little more water per minute than the python did by itself so its a plus.

Probably other size pumps would work too and you could always get an adapter....

I got this pump cause it was cheap and on sale and had a good max head height (6')

Great. Much appreciated. I'll probably pick one up tomorrow. Thank you.
