I recently read that the Toledo Zoo is getting into conservation breeding of Victorian cichlids. They are going for a levy right now to help update the aquarium. I'm hoping they are going to make a display tank of cichlids too. As well as the cichlids they are planning to make a larger shark tank and update their filtration system (I guess what they currently have is very DIY LOL but it works).
If (and when) they get it up and running, I'll get out there to get some pics.

They aren't getting into it, they've been a part of the Lake Victorian Species Survival Program (LVSSP) for a long time. In fact, the author of the yearly stud book is from the Toldedo Zoo.
Most of the still breeding groups of LVSSP victorians are never put on display. They are in breeding tanks behind the displays out of sight. The rule is that no one is even allowed to take pictures of them. (I got the behind the scenes tour with the local aquarium club and got to see them.)
Now not all of the victorians at zoos are a part of the LVSSP. Those are the ones that are put on display like at the Columbus zoo.
Is there a link to the article? I think that it is great news that the Toledo Zoo is hoping to update and expand their facility. I hope they do put some of the non-protected species of vics on display. It is especially great news since the Belle Isle aquarium near Detroit (also involved in the LVSSP) closed not that long ago.

My MIL is a member of the zoo and it was in their member newsletter they send out. I read the article last weekend. I was hoping to get to see the vics LOL. Actually I thought about joining that membership too as the Columbus zoo one is so bad now (you have to pay half price to go to other zoos rather than the free admission it used to be, unless that's changed again, and anyway we end up there more than the Columbus zoo).
