i have a BEAUTIFUL 55g tank [planted] and im going to put my discus in soon, i was wondering how would i clean the sand?? do i need to or does it fertilize the plants??

well to clean my sand i just siphon over it. Not to high but high enough where it wont suck sand up, but will get all the junk. i am very sure that you can do this other wys, but mine works great for me.

Yes, you need to fertilize the plants. How much really depends on how fast the plants grow. If you have high lighting then you'll need to fertilize more often. For plants like swords and anubias, you can use plant tabs buried under the substrate. Good Luck

thanks a lot you guys. i feel so stupid i didnt think of just siphoning over the top, i was just so worried about sucking up the sand too. ill post pics soon about the plants n stuff.

one more thing people, im clueless on how 2 fertilize plants.

--i have high lighting and leave it on in the day time and turn it off so they can sleep at night.

is that smart?? what should i buy/use to fertilize the plants??

--i know i have 3 anubus// 5 ones that looks like real grass// 6 of the long pointy cheap ones// and 3 anchris// (i cant even describe the other ones)
