I don’t know about the rest of you but this just crawls under my skin when I see people selling so called F1 and F2 Lake Victoria Cichlids. I don’t remember when it was last that the band had been lifted to get anything imported from that lake. Was it 1994 or something like that? Anyway I do under stand it was for a vary short time and only but a few species were sent here one being the Hap “tomato”. Anyway and how long was it before that where you could receive anything from there right. So then what is the odds of anything being F1 or F2? I don’t think that is likely by any means do you?

I think it was 1998.

Hmm, do you recall what was distributed from there at that time? I thought I remember looking at a website with that info somewhere, do anyone happen to know where it is or where I can find this info?

Perhaps old Laif Demason's "What's New"? I believe I remember seeing some Vics being exported on some of the old articles...

I see reports of a few Vics being exported in 2000 here...

Is is reputdly possible to do a little collecting in the lake if one makes a few contributions to "local interests" (read bribes). The F1-F2 claim is remote but just possible, although pretty much impossible to prove...

Tires,

The Astatotilapia burtoni is from the rivers near Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania and is not subject to any export ban from Lake Victoria.
