I am having a very difficult time tracking down the name of this fish, it was sold to me as a breeding partner for the fish I mentioned in the previous post (Electric Blue Hap???) however I have sinced learned that the female hap is not yellow, but rather a somewhat dull brown/gray. What type of fish is this, because I believe that it is breeding the blue fish in my tank(Electric blue Hap)??? Thanks

I don't know the fish, but it's not electric blue hap. It's some sort of mbuna I'd guess and it looks like it's holding.

not sure--but it looks like it could be a female melanochromis johanni.

Yeah.....I just looked up the johanni on a picture fish index...and I think that is definately the fish that I have...does it seem strange that this fish would breed with my yet unidentified blue cichlid???
The body shape appears at this angle to be that of the johanni; but I see bars instead of the characteristic horizontal stripes. P. saulosi would be my immediate guess.

actually, i think that tom's got it. kris, it's possibble for any of the fish from lake malawi to interbreed.

I was thinking Saulosi as well, remember female johannis have vertical stripes as well as darker horizontal. You might have to wait to see .

Yes, The picture of the male is in the thread just before this one, titled "Electric Blue Hap???", I believe that the male is an Electric Blue.

It looks identical to my female saulosi
so i would guess saulosi
and the reason it's breeding with your blue unidentified fish is because the male saulosi is blue

The male in that photo by KrisG23 definitely isn't saulosi. It isn't even an Mbuna. Any fry are (most probably) S. fryeri x Ps. saulosi.
