Anyone seen or kept one of these? I have read that my favorite Malawi cichlid (do I really need to say its name again ;) ) P. Phenochilus follows this species in the lake as it sifts through the sand. It is because of this fish that I think the P. Phenochilus gets its white silver spots. The Pheno is blue like the lake and the spots mimic the sand the praeorbitalis disturbs during its sifting.

Seems reasonable to me.

I've read that the preaorbitalis needs a big 200g aqaurium, so that is now my goal one day to have. A big 200g with a preaorbitalis and a bunch of Phenochilus to follow it around the tank. :D

:rotf: Nice link as well FOx!!

Keep in mind that is but one photo of the species. That one must be a female because the male has a much flatter snout for sifting.
