I am thinking of setting up a 77 gal tank. Was wondering if anyone could give some advice/tips as to what fish are a good mix?I was looking at fish that would be compatible agression wise as well as diet and water conditions. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks. :D
Have you checked out www.cichlidrecipe.com
That should get you started. The water conditions are pretty similar. The fish however aren't. I keep lots of tangs with Malawi and they do very well. You just have to minimize the aggression level. So do your research. As for the perfect cichlid recipe......I think that differs with everyone you talk to.

is there any one fish that you would particularly like to have that you can build a community around?(sorry for that dangling participle  )...welcome!

Thanks for the tips. I was thinking about Frontosas or tropheus moori/dubosi to start and am not sure whether you can combine these two even. So any suggestions to go with them?? :)

you've chosen two beautiful fish, which are not combatible with each other, mainly because of dietary requirements. tropheus are strict vegetarians, which can only tolerate a very small amount of protein, and from all that i've read, are notoriously difficult to keep alive. they are also very aggressive. the only fish that i can think of that would be compatible with them are petrochromis. frontosas are predators which can grow up to sixteen inches(though they grow very slowly). i keep frontosas with large malawi haps. you could probably keep altolamprologus compressiceps with them.

Thanks for the info that is what I thought as well, but I have seen a few tank setups on the net where people have combined these two fish, at least 3 tanks set up combining these two (among others)
So I am in the research stage at the moment as I only have a 30 gallon tank. I think I want a setup with the less aggressive fish species, some Peacocks etc.. Any other suggestions are great!

Matt Pedersen's compatibility chart is really well done. Thanks for pointing to it.
