1 of my 2 cichlids has been in a vertical position (head up, tail down) for almost a week already. He was seen turning alot just before that which was not his usual activity. He seems frightened whenever anyone goes near; he used to come forward every time we come close. At the same time, the other cichlid is always sitting at the bottom of the tank, with the body slanting to a side. He appeared listless and does not move around as much as before. Water temperature is kept at 28 degree Celcius and they are both sharing a tank with a divider to separate the both of them (they have been staying in the same tank ever since I got them half a year ago). I changed the water a few days ago (water is changed every 2 weeks), and yet, they remained the same condition. Is anything wrong with the both of them?

I also noticed that the mouth of the 'vertical' one has turned red and swollen. He used to have this white 'pimple' on his lips that has been there for quite some time already and just refuse to go away. Is it the cause of his abnormalities?

i'm sorry--i don't recognize the symptoms...did you try checking the thread "disease diagnosis sites"? it's at the top of this forum.

You may wish to take a nitrite reading. I have a hunch.
