I have a ob female zebra that's about 2" long that has had cloud eye for almost a month. Prior to that she was very sluggish and wouldn't eat for a few weeks. I tried treating her with tetracycline (pardon the spelling) all of last week but her eye looks the same. Anyone have any suggestions???

try these sites :

http://www.fishdoc.co.uk/disease/diseasehome.htm

http://www.gbasonline.org/disease_chart.htm

http://www.blueridgekoi.com/disease_issues.htm#treatment%20#4 (even though they are talking about goldfish here--most of this stuff applies to any freshwater fish)

sometimes cloudy eyes are caused by poor water quality--have you checked your water's parameters, kept up with your water changes, siphoned the gravel?

it might have been better to treat the fish with a broad spectrum medication. that's usually a better choice if you're not sure what the problem is--like whether it's bacterial or parasitic. in this case, i think that it's probably more likely that it's bacterial.(p.s--tom has pointed out to me that tetracycline [i:f3357242fa]is[/i:f3357242fa] a broad-spectrum med. )

I just tried melafix in my tank with a fish with mouth fungus and the fungus is now all gone. It is worth a try. Tetracycline kills the nitrogen cycle bacteria so you need a hospital tank with frequent water changes if you use it melafix seems to be the closest thing to a fish panacea out there.
