This is what a Pundamilia Igneopinnis is supposed to look like.

Hmmmm...I'm counting 15 or 16 spines...

Could it actually be L. xanthopteryx?
An Interesting discussion on these two species can be found here:

I for one am not willing to rural it out that what I have is not a Pundamilia "igneopinnis" just yet. All though on the anal fin the egg spots appear to me to be smaller then that of the Lithochromis xanthopteryx and the fins are bright orange to me as well unlike the more red of the Lithochromis xanthopteryx as well. However I see the first three rays on the pelvic fins being black in color like the Lithochromis xanthopteryx as Samaki pointed out as I have noticed that as well but the pelvic fins on mine are pretty long to me as well like the Pundamilia "igneopinnis". Now as for the blue in the first few top portion on the spine as that is an indicator of it not being a Pundamilia "igneopinnis" just don’t hold water for me as in the Ole’s book on page 113 even has some blue in it from the flash of the camera or in certain light conditions. Now the numbers of spines of Lithochromis xanthopteryx are 15-16. On mine I have counted 16 spines as well like that is what is indicated of the Pundamilia "igneopinnis" has. However that is how many I count in the book as well on page 113 of the Pundamilia "igneopinnis" of Ole’s book. Although in the Fishbase as you know states the Pundamilia "igneopinnis" has 16-17 spines. As for the eye diameter, just by looking at mine I would also have to lean more to the Pundamilia "igneopinnis". So you know, I don’t know! All I know is keep in mind there are three locations of the Pundamilia "igneopinnis" and species color do vary some do to types of food, water conditions and over all health as some differences are just apart of nature just as we all don’t look alike (I hope by stating that don’t increase more to hybridization though). With out the measurements of the type specimen of the Lithochromis xantopteryx body depth, eye length, jaw length, scale counts, teeth ect and more live and specimens of the real deal, which would be vary helpful I cant say one way or the other just yet. All I know is that I can’t distribute these until this gets figured out.

I have three groups of these one being more slender in body length. The other which looks to me just like the one in the book on page113 except for the three rays on the pelvic (species described above) and the other shorter in body length with more red on the fins the orange.

Up date!

On two of my full grown males that has past away I have counted 17 hard spins on the dorsal fin as indicated for the Pundamilia “igneopinnis” and with a friend that has been working a lot longer then I with these species agreeing that it indeed appears to be a Pundamilia “igneopinnis” of which I believe that it is as well.
