thanks its hot as heck here been between 95-100 for the past and I have no A/C so the house is like 85-90 which makes the tanks almost the same really hard keeping 7 tanks cool :) hows the weather in Mustang?

High 90's today, but I've got A/C so it's good for me. Do you use extra air stones to agitate when it gets that hot? I'd think the warm water would have less oxygen.

All of my tanks have large powerheads on them aimed @ the surface so I have good gas exchange. Some of the tanks like my 40g SW Reef have 6" fans on the sump and the tank stays under 83 but the cichlids get about 82-84 so I use Ice packs to cool the tanks
I try and shoot for a turnover rate of 10-15X the tanks voloume per hr with the pwrheads and the filters

I lost my 75g reef a few years back. We went out of town for the 4th of July and the A/C failed while we were gone. Between the 440w of VHO and the overall heat of the house it destroyed my tank. The water was about 90 degrees.

bummer :( I would have to cry if that happened to me

I wasn't crying but it was pretty close. The cost of the corals was pretty bad, but I really felt bad for my fish.
The smell wasn't too nice either.

your telling me! I have spent about 1500$ on my 40g sw reef and thats not counting the tank, stand, and canopy let alone all the inhabiatants and sand and live rock and fish and blah blah blah.....
For bad smells I once had a cichlid fry about 1.5" jump ship and I didn't find him untill I smelt him and that was after he had turned into a cichlid jerkey. He was dried and crispy and smelly :(

I sell to Joe at AW, and almost any store that sells cichlids in SD. I have a gang load of fry
Mabye we can get together and try a mail order deaL? I was thinking that it would be cool to open a LFS here in Escondido but I need to find another partner :(
