get a black light or a moonlight lamp and watch for him at night. None of my bottom feeders come out during the day.

it's quite common.somtimes i can't watch mine for more than 3months!you could look them ar night .in that time they're activer than sharks and you could watch them enough.
good advice about blacklight and moonlight lamp by cichgirl.
goodluck.

Thanks cichgirl,I will look into the moon light thing. I am thinking of getting a syndo cat and from what I have read they do the samething. Thanks for the reply.I have a 100g african tank that I am trying to get stabilized.I dig this forum. They didn`t have this kind of stuff 20 years ago when I had my other african tank.

Red lights work as well. From my understanding the eye of a fish can't see the red light spectrum, and they will think its dark, but you'll be able to watch him that way. Used to work with My striped Raphael cat who was also nocturnal.
