have ph level of 7.6
ammonia about .5 to 1.0
havent tested the hardness yet but is that ph level fine for mbunas? how about that ammonia i havent been able to get rid of it

No! You must get rid of that ammonia! The PH should be fine, its a little on the soft side, you might consider a buffer to raise it like crushed coral.

Did you cycle your tank? That ammonia level is not good at all. Do an immediate water change, about 50 percent and see if that helps. Reduce your feeding as well. Do not use those anti-ammonia products as they may destroy what little of a biological filter you already have.

no, any ammonia will make fast work of any fish in that tank. Did you cycle it properly???

describe your tank for us...size of tank, inhabitants, substrate, filtration, water-changing schedule, etc.
