Male or female

At my LFS they have an Aurata that is about 3" long and still mainly a bright yellow. Is it a good bet this is a female. I have one that is about 2.5" long and almost completly black. I have been told this is a male. Is this correct.

Mine didn't change colour until it was almost 3". I was so pissed because I wanted a female, it ended up being a male (all brownish-black) and is a royal terror. My Crabbo keeps it in check tho.

DeadI: why do you want a female Auratus? A single female will get chewed up by the single male Auratus. you need 3 or 4 females if you want to breed them. Cheers..... Tony.
