Hi all,

My 3" redtop has some sort of eating disorder. He's the one which lives on the left - top side of the tank (where i feed) and helped by him very big mouth, he'll scoff down so much food, that his belly swells up bigger than him.

Problem is that he cant swim properly. He's swimming slanted. I'm sure that this will kill him. So recently i've been catching him (which is so easy :)) and stick him in the fry tank till i've fed the others. But this is very stressful to the other fish and also messy cos redtop always manages to give me a mouthful of water

Its not his fault, he just takes after his owner:oops:

Any simple ways i can get round this (even though i love the taste of malawi flavour water)?

Cheers

DG

i have the same problem with the greedy catfish in my hap tank--they hog up so much food that they look like they're resting atop miniature basketballs!

Your solution is a good one.....the overeating can lead to bloat, which can be difficult to treat.

I would just cut down on feeding, or place him in a tank with similar fish. Is the tank fill with hybrids? You could place a divider in the tank until his weight goes down, but MalawiM
the overeating can lead to bloat is right. Bloating is dangerous.
